COSY SEASON PROPOSALS
Wow, what a summer - full of gorgeous outdoor proposals and weddings but we personally think that the Autumn up to New Year is the perfect time to pop the question to your loved one. The Autumn and early winter is full of gorgeous colour, festivals, lights and roaring fires - nothing says romance more to us that a time when you can snuggle up together. In this blog you will find some of our top ways and places to propose this cosy season.
Proposing with the ring is down to personal preference. Some people like to present the ring during the proposal where as others like to ask the question and then shop together. If you are hoping to present the ring as part of your proposal then you might want to explore some of our other blog posts too…

1) First up - the changing of the season.
If you are a couple who love the outdoors then Autumn is the perfect time for a proposal. Picture the golden sunlight, the glow of the crisp orange and red leaves, snuggly warm jumpers, holding hands breathing in the crips air - perfection!. It doesn’t matter where you are - if you have a small patch of parkland in the middle of an urban area, a neighbouring woodland or a large expanses of moorland you can still enjoy the light and the colour - just head outside and take it all in. We’d recommend packing blankets, a flask of tea and some favourite snacks to help you get cosy and snuggly before you pop the question. Once they have said yes you can wrap up warm together and take in the atmosphere.
3. Storm Chasing
Lets be honest as wonderful as the golden light and rustling leaves are the weather in the UK doesn’t always come up trumps. However there is something really romantic about being cosy when the rain is lashing on the windows or the wind is whistling. Set a cosy vibe with candles (especially if you end up with a power cut!), blankets and quiet music so you can hear the wildness of outdoors. It’s a great time to turn off the TV and chat about memorable moments of your relationship - good and bad; celebrate what you have already been through and make plans for the future.
Or if you are feeling adventurous head out to the coast in your car, take hot water bottles and blankets and watch the waves crashing.
3. Star Gazing
With the nights drawing in earlier then it is the perfect opportunity to get outside and watch the stars. If you are somewhere urban you’re going to need to head away from the built up area and street lights to make the most of this. Moorland or beaches are great places where there is plenty of open space and little light pollution. You will need to check restrictions of where you plan to head but you may be able to light a small bonfire or take a portable fire pit so you can snuggle together to watch the stars. Autumn is also a great time for meteor showers. There is a handy guide as to what is expected when here.
4) Going off with a bang!
Personally we adore fireworks - we know they are not everyone’s cup of tea but for us it takes us to an inner child moment of Oooo’s an Ahhhh’s with the flashes of colour and booming explosions. We still get giddy and excited with the smell of the bonfire and writing in the sky with sparklers.
There are professionals out there that you can hire to create your own private fireworks display (We recommend Sonic Fireworks based in Devon) but we realise this is not in everyones budget. Large or small locally organised displays can be just as romantic. If you want to keep it intimate then during the big finale surrounded by people may not be the best time to go down on one knee but maybe nearer the end when people have dispersed a little and you can get a little closer to the bonfire may be a nice time.
If you live somewhere urban it is likely there will be fireworks going off all around you for the evening so why not create your own small fire pit in the garden, put out candles and snuggle up with some blankets to watch whats going on around you - that way you can go down on one knee in a super romantic setting with fireworks going on in the privacy of your own home.
5. Christmas
Light the fire (if you have one) and / or lots of candles, put on your favourite romcom and snuggle down with the twinkly Christmas lights. Then when the moment is right..or they get to the bottom of the bowl of popcorn where the ring is lurking, you can pop the question. Then on Christmas day when you are off seeing family or friends you can bask in the newly engaged glow!
6. New Years Eve
There isn’t much to say here other than what a beautiful way to mark the change in the year by moving into the next phase of your relationship. It doesn’t matter where you are or who else is there the countdown is the perfect time to get down on one knee. We would just recommend holding back on the champagne a little until after you’ve asked the question or your other half may not take you seriously!
7. New Years Day
New years day is a great chance to get out and blow away the cobwebs. Why not choose a special location that holds beautiful memories for you both? Often on New Years Day people make resolutions of things they want to achieve. Often these can have a negative tone of ‘loose weight’ or ‘breaking a habit’. How about as a couple you make promises to each other and goals for what you want to do together in the year ahead? Keep them positive - a list of things you want to draw into your relationship rather than get rid of.
No matter how you choose to ask the question you can be safe in the knowledge that here at Erin Cox Jewellery we would love to hear your story and celebrate with you.
